A young senior is definitely an oxymoron. And that is what Padmanabha Rao, head of programs, 24/7 Customer is. At 26 years of age, when most men are still trying to work out their career path, this young trailblazer is heading not just one but four processes in the company. He has risen the ranks with a very mature outlook towards life and his chosen career path.

As he puts it, this has been " a journey of a lifetime." When asked about his experience working in this sector Rao adds," I have continued to grow along with the organization and I believe that it has been an amazing experience working here and probably I wouldn't have achieved this in any other industry." When others were preparing for CAT for MBA along with him, he sensed the growth opportunity in the growing BPO industry and joined 24/7 Customer as an agent. Today, in less than 6 years Rao is responsible for four different processes and manages teams of more than 220 people under him. He works for a banking client based in Canada. He has already certified as an Six Sigma Green Belt and is now part of the Black Belt certification projects as well. Three to five years down the line Rao aspires to become VP Operations and head 10 to 20 teams at the same time.
Rao is a self-proclaimed is a people’s person and that has been his clear motivation to stick around in this industry. He explains "the exciting thong about this industry is that you get to work with people from different age groups, backgrounds and people with various mindset and points of view. Balancing that is a challenge and a key to growth. It is just a question of proper coaching and feedback." Besides, what excites him is that in his current job role he not only handles lots of operational activities but also gets an opportunity to gain knowledge about the functioning of different departments whether it is accounts, human resource or any other. A Christ College commerce graduate, Rao pursued his MBA from Symbiosis through distance learning program and completed the course in 2005. He kept on working efficiently in 24/7 Customer while studying since he "did not want to miss out on the opportunities in the BPO sector." The challenge to outperform just keeps him going. According to him it’s not just to perform well in the job, but to be the driving force is important to him. He works to give his best and exceed the expectations of the clients.
Although he agrees that BPO work culture adds stress, and there is always a need to outperform, but how it is handled is entirely the person’s outlook towards life. He explains, "BPO sector is just been blamed too much and the whole idea is blown out of proportion. Every other industry vertical also faces same challenges as far as time complications are concerned. It is just the matter of proper time management and everything falls in place whether it is work or your sleep pattern or life."
So how does he do it? Well, for him Rao goes back to the yoga training he had got from Sidh Samadhi Yoga Institution when he was in college. He de-tresses with few yoga moves even now. Otherwise as far as his social life is concerned he says that he is able to manage it since he uses his weekends off to spend with his family and friends. While in 24/7 Customer, he has been able to continue his acting hobby as well, he enthusiastically adds, “I did a teleserial in Kannad called Bibigechandrama.” His favourite pastimes include dancing, listening to music and watching soccer.
