Infovision Chants The 'Save Energy' Mantra Infovision Chants The 'Save Energy' Mantra

Infovision Group has taken some remarkable steps towards power conservation by changing it light bulbs and monitors

Wednesday, May 23, 2007:  It does no more need a mention that India is one of the most sought-after outsourcing destinations. But at the same time one cannot deny that it still has to go miles to battle the persisting problem of high infrastructure costs, which continue to go up as we write. Infrastructure, comprising of energy backup and telecommunications costs the companies a bit too dearly. To overcome this, Infovision Group has come up with innovative methods to save energy and reduce cost. This initiative is also aimed towards creating a better work environment for its existing employees so as to retain them.

Working in that direction Infovision Group has taken some remarkable steps towards power conservation and better workplace creation. The organisation is now using TFT instead of CRT monitors. This gives an immediate saving on the recurring electricity consumption for the computer monitor by about 60 percent. Moreover, TFTs generate less heat as compared to regular CRT monitors reducing load on air conditioning as well. Additionally, the former requires less space creating a spacious office environment.

The company has also replaced normal electric tubes with CFL lights, which use the same amount of lumens but do not affect the light per workstation. This not only reduces electricity consumption of each light by around 20 percent but also relieves the eyes from stress.

This shift to CFL lights and TFTs which further help in stress reduction are a welcome change for the employees.

Aditya Gupta, President, Infovision Group, said, “All our initiatives are aimed towards betterment of the employees and not just cost effectiveness. We have invested in energy efficient servers from Dell and other suppliers, started using TFT monitors and CFL lighting which itself is expected to give us savings of Rs 1 crore annually.”

“These energy saving initiatives have cost us around Rs 4 to Rs 5 crore. But this investment will yield us returns to the tune of Rs 10 lakh ( approx) per month. Hence the cost incurred will be revived back within two to three years. Not just the cost effectiveness, but psychologically also this has created a 'feel good factor' among the employees,” added Gupta.

Highlighting on the advantage of gas as an alternative energy resource the president elaborated, “95 percent of the transformation is complete and the rest would be over soon. We are also in talks with the Haryana government proposing the initiative to use gas as an alternative source of energy so that we can reduce diesel consumption of the generators."

On the telecommunications front, the company is investing in technology, dialers, ACDs etc to stabilise the costs. This would ensure better productivity levels while increasing the efficiency of the employees. The mapping of telephone usage through business analytical tools and study of the usage patterns helps Infovision to make cost efficient plans that satisfies the customers' needs as well.
