Tuesday, December 18, 2007:
The growing Indian market for electronic products is over $30 billion and is projected to exceed $320 billion by 2015. In spite of a strong raw material base, India's share in the global market is a meager one. Realising the need to re-orient the electronics sector, ELCINA and FISME are jointly commissioning a Study of Mandatory and Voluntary Standards on Electronic Products and Components. Proposals and expression of interest are being invited from consultants/consultancy firms who have adequate experience of international trade in electronics sector.
|
The study is being commissioned under the SME component of the project 'Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalisation in India', which is supported by UNCTAD (India), DFID. Under the project 'Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalization India', FISME intends to address this specific need by focussing on the following issues: technical barriers to trade; social barriers to trade; environment-related barriers to trade; and multilateral, bilateral and regional trade agreements.
The study shall entail the following specific tasks: to examine the overall market of Indian electronics products and components; standards to be adhered to while exporting to the countries; analysis of multilateral, bilateral and regional trade agreements and their specific impact on the electronic sector; and to create a database of certifying laboratories/agencies for the standards.
The background paper with detailed terms of reference for the study is available at the project website. You can submit your proposals latest by 24 December 2007. |
